Alphonse John Bak

Alphonse John Bak, 96, of Seymour, peacefully entered eternal life on December 9, 2022, at Griffin Hospital, with his loving family by his side.  Alphonse was the beloved husband of Harriet Pokora Bak.  He was born in Derby on May 15, 1926, son of the late Joseph and Stefania (Wasik) Bak.  He was a graduate of Derby High School Class of 1944 and proudly served his country in the Navy during WWII.  He also attended college for two years.  It was at a Community Club dance in the Valley where he met Harriet, the joy of his life.  It was love at first sight and truly a match made in heaven as they were blessed with a happy 70-year marriage and a devoted family.  Al remained active and energetic throughout his life and enjoyed working around the house and yard.  He enjoyed sports, especially golfing, and was a past member of a local Golf League.  Al was a foreman at the former Farrell Corporation for many years and enjoyed being a member of their "Old Timers Club."  He was a devout Catholic and a long-term communicant of St. Augustine Church of St. Nicholas Parish in Seymour and a member of the Catholic War Veterans.          He was predeceased by his siblings, Dr. Alfred J. Bak, DDS, Chester Bak, Irene Cronin, RN, and Claire Rahael.  In addition to his beloved wife, Harriet Bak, he is survived by his devoted daughters, Barbara Bak Lucas, and her husband David, Cynthia Bak and Dorothy Bak; and his cherished grandchildren, Darrell Lucas, Denise Latino and her husband Matthew, Hillary DeFeo and her husband Joseph, Gary Cox, Ryan Angelone, Christopher Angelone and his wife Kim.  He is also survived by four great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.  In keeping with his wishes, funeral services will be private.  Following a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Augustine Church of St. Nicholas Parish, interment with full Military Honors will be at St. Augustine Cemetery.  Final Arrangements have been entrusted into the care of the Anthony V.
