Cyrus "Sonny" Ploss, 90, of Seymour peacefully entered eternal life on Friday September 27, 2024 in the comfort of his own home with his loving family at his side. He was the devoted husband of Sylvia Haversat Ploss. They were blessed with a happy and fulfilling marriage spanning over seventy years. Sonny was born in Hunter, NY, beloved son of Wesley Ploss and Doris Vrooman Ploss. He was a graduate of Bullard-Havens Technical High School and was employed by Tomtec and Pratt and Whitney. He was an intelligent and gifted craftsman and was proud to have worked on the design teams for the original USA space suits and for modification to the atypical Gatling gun. With sweat and great effort, Sonny and his wife were fortunate to be able to personally construct the home they have resided in for over 65 years. Together they enjoyed hunting, fishing, exploring nature and each other's company. Sonny had the ability to fix their cars as needed and to tinker with electronics. He was able to build, repair, or design almost anything they needed. He was a loving and nurturing husband and father who cherished his family and reveled in their times together. He was a good man who will be greatly missed. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, James Ploss; and sister, Mavouneen "Cissy" Sullivan. He is survived by his beloved wife, Sylvia Ploss; devoted son, Rev. Brian Ploss; favorite canine companion, Nita; brother-in-law, David Haversat of Oxford; sister-in-law, Julie Monda of Great Barrington, MA; several nieces, nephews and dear friends. Funeral Services which are private have been entrusted to the care of the Anthony V. Chepulis Funeral Home, 47 Washington Ave. Seymour.
