Eileen Gauvin

Eileen Gauvin, 97, of Seymour, entered eternal life on August 12, 2026, at Yale New Haven Hospital after a brief illness. A beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Eileen was the widow of her cherished husband of 54 years, Francis Gauvin, who predeceased her in 2009.

Born in Derby, Eileen was the daughter of the late Albert and Margaret (MacDougall) Moran. A graduate of Derby High School, she began her career as a switchboard operator at the former Southern New England Telephone Company and remained a dedicated employee of SNET (now AT&T) until her retirement. She was a lifelong communicant of St. Augustine Church, where her faith was a steady and comforting presence throughout her life.

In her younger years, Eileen loved to travel and was fortunate to explore the sights and sounds of England, Ireland, Alaska, Las Vegas, Missouri, and many other destinations. She enjoyed trying her luck at the local casinos and never passed up the chance to scratch an instant ticket. At home, she delighted in collecting commemorative plates and dolls and they were proudly displayed in her home.

Eileen found joy in the simple pleasures of daily life. Most days, she could be found watching classic movies and Westerns, and every Sunday from late August through January was devoted to watching football and cheering on her favorite team, the Pittsburgh Steelers. She had a soft spot for dogs and, though unable to have a pet in recent years, she enjoyed any time she was able to spend with her grandpups. A proud supporter of animal rescue and various Veterans’ organizations, Eileen lived her values with quiet devotion.

She will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate to know her. In addition to her husband, Fran, she was predeceased by her son, James Gauvin; daughter, Debra Gauvin; and sister, Margaret “Cookie” Kiley. Left to cherish her memory are her devoted son, Michael, and his wife, Linda and her cherished granddaughter, Amanda, of Torrington; her brother John “Jack” Moran and his wife, Beverly, of Derby; and her brother‑in‑law, Richard Kiley, and his wife, Pat, of Branford. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great‑ and great‑great‑nieces and nephews, and dear friends.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Beverly Legge, Eileen’s neighbor, friend, and steadfast companion. Bev’s loving support made it possible for Eileen to spend her final years in the home that she loved.

Funeral services have been entrusted to the Anthony V. Chepulis Funeral Home, 47 Washington Ave., Seymour. Friends are invited to greet the family on Monday morning August 17, 2026, from 9:30 a.m. until Mass time. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Augustine Church of St. Nicholas Parish at 11:30am, with Rev. Thomas Cieslikowski officiating. Interment will follow in the family plot at Mountain Meadows Cemetery.
