Evelyn E. Burd, 100 years young, formerly of Millburn, New Jersey, peacefully went home to the Lord on Thursday August 10, 2017, at the Shady Knoll Health Center in Seymour. She was the beloved wife of the late Roy Burd, Jr. for greater than 50 years. Evelyn was born in West Orange, NJ, on November 3, 1916, daughter of the late Anson Brodie and Ethel Merwin Brodie. She and her siblings were raised on the family farm and developed a deep appreciation for the beauty in nature. She was an avid bird lover and made sure they were fed daily to the dismay of the neighborhood squirrels. She had a special fondness for cardinals and often quipped that she would come back as one, or at least be riding around in a big red convertible. She was an accomplished artist and enjoyed oil painting landscapes to preserve their beauty forever. Evelyn was an avid golfer and won many tournaments at the Maplewood Country Club in New Jersey. She was a kind and loving Mother who was blessed with the expertise to personally sew her children's clothing. She passed her skill and motivation on to her daughter, Pamela, who reciprocated the favor by sewing clothing for her Mom. In addition to her beloved husband and parents, she was predeceased by all of her siblings. She is survived by her devoted son, David Burd, of Chattanooga, TN; her cherished daughters, Pamela Mellitz and her husband Michael of Beacon Falls, and Marcianna Mellor of South Yarmouthport, MA. She is also survived by many adored grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make a memorial contribution in her honor are invited to contact the charity of their choice. Funeral Services will take place at the Wyoming Presbyterian Church in Millburn, New Jersey on Saturday August 26, 2017 at 10:00 AM. Local arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Anthony V. Chepulis Funeral Home, 47 Washington Ave. Seymour, CT. To leave an online condolence please visit: www.chepulisfuneralhome.com
