Janice Lee Meadowlark Vars

Janice Lee
Vars, 59, of Big Sandy Montana, passed away at the Peace Hospice, Great Falls,
MT on September 11, 2013 with her husband, Yukon Two Moons, by her side.

Janice was
born in Bridgeport CT, on December 1, 1953, daughter of William Courtland Vars,
Jr. and Dorothy Evelyn French Vars of Stratford CT.  She was a graduate of Albertus Magnus
College, New Haven, CT with a BS in Business and Economics and received her
Master of Science in Education from the University of New Haven in 2002.  Janice was a Past Worthy Advisor of the
Stratford, CT Assembly, Order of Rainbow for Girls.

Janice was an
Information Technology teacher in high schools and community colleges in
Connecticut, Arizona, and Montana.  She
felt a sense of accomplishment when she knew that she helped her students on
their way to more productive lives. In addition to her passion for teaching,
Janice's true calling was her love of art and nature. From her early years in
school in Stratford she excelled at sketching, drawing, and painting the world
around her. She had the gift of being able to visualize and create beautiful
works in many media. In later life, she had the opportunity to learn Native
American beading techniques when she lived on the Navajo, Northern Cheyenne,
and

Blackfoot
native lands. Part of her immersion was to learn the native languages wherever
she lived.  Meadowlark, the name she took
when she married Yukon, also had the honor of being asked by Tribal Elders to
teach beading in order to carry on the traditions of the Native American Nations.  She was a member of the Daughters of the
American Revolution, National #831243;  a
Charter Member of Stone Bridge Chapter, Sterling, VA; and a member of the Eleanor
Wilson Chapter, Washington, D.C. In addition to her parents and husband she is
survived by her daughter,  Stephanie
Conrod (husband Jeffrey) of Orange, MA, her son, Steven Kerkow of Montana, andgrandchildren,
Gwendolyn Conrod, Astrid Conrod, and Lucian Kerkow, all of Massachussetts. She
is also survived by her sisters, Judith Vars of Reston, VA and Joy Vars
(husband Mark) of Seymour, CT, nephew Scott Carlisle (wife Gale) of Shelton,
CT, and niece Trisha Tetreault (husband Leo) of South Ryegate, VT.  Funeral Services  in celebration of her life and burial in her family plot in Union Cemetery, Stratford, will be
