John Joseph Vaivoda, 88, of Chestnut Tree Hill Rd. Ext. Oxford, entered eternal rest on Oct 1, 2016 in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of the late Arlene Micknak Vaivoda. John was born in Oxford on June 8, 1928, son of the late Bronnes and Martha (Milauskas) Vaivoda. He served in the US Navy prior to working as machinist and foreman at the H.C. Cook Co. He was a communicant of St. Anthony's Church in Ansonia and was proud to serve as a Eucharistic Minister for 27 years. John was a naturalist who loved walking and gardening. He was interested in homeopathy and health food. His greatest pleasure was enjoying the company of his cherished family. In addition to his beloved wife, Arlene, he was predeceased by his daughter, Kathleen Ann Kraemer; brothers, Vincent, Vitalis, Edward, and Albert Vaivoda; and sisters, Mildred Edmunds, Adele Mikita, and Isabelle Canepa. He is survived by his beloved sons, John Vaivoda, Jr. and Donald Vaivoda of Oxford; devoted daughters, Marianne Barker and her husband David of Seymour, Debbie Butkus and her husband David of Oxford, Pattie Vaivoda of Waterbury; and special niece, Linda Vaivoda of Oxford, whom he loved like a daughter. He was blessed to be survived by 13 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Friends and family are invited to meet directly at St. Anthony's Church 199 North Main Street, Ansonia, on Wed. October 5th at 12 noon for a Mass of Christian Burial with Rev. Stephen Krugel officiating. Interment will follow at St. Augustine Cemetery, Seymour. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.
