John Zibluk

John Zibluk, 90, died June 4, at his home in Bethany, of complications of congestive heart failure. He was a chemist and metallurgist for the former Avco Lycoming Co. of Stratford and an environmental chemist with the city of Waterbury. He was born March 27, 1926, son of the late Polikarp Zibluk and Anastasia Elkavich Zibluk of Seymour. He graduated from Seymour High School and Fairfield Preparatory Academy. He earned a B.S, degree in Chemistry at the University of Connecticut and an M.S. in Physics at Columbia University in New York City. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII, serving in the infantry in the Battle of the Bulge in which he earned a Purple Heart after being wounded. He also served as an interpreter for Holocaust survivors during his hospitalization in Germany. He was active in environmental causes and was a well-known appraiser of antiques and art in the region. He is survived by his wife, Joan Barbara Frances Bentley Zibluk of Bethany, and three sons, John Bentley Zibluk of Cape Girardeau Mo., Kevin Zibluk of Bethany and Alan Zibluk of Bethany; two grandchildren, John Cubeta Zibluk of Bethany, and Sara Catherine Zibluk of Cape Girardeau Mo.; and a brother, Alex Zibluk of Oxford. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers, Harry Zibluk of Naugatuck, and James Zibluk of Oxford, and his daughter, June Zibluk of Bethany. Calling hours will be held on Thursday June 9, 2016 starting at 9 am the Anthony V. Chepulis Funeral Home, 47 Washington Ave. Seymour, CT 06483. Pannikhida Service with Rev.
