Mary Josephine (Duszak) Heffernan, 96 years young, widow of William Heffernan, died peacefully at Masonicare Hospice in Wallingford on Sunday, August 2, 2015. Born on Feb. 22, 1919, Mary was the daughter of the late Stanislaw and Valeria Duszak. She attended Seymour schools, and following high school she obtained employment at the Uniroyal footwear plant in Naugatuck, where she worked until her retirement, having attained the position of supervisor in recognition of her skills and strong work ethic. In her day she kept her home and yard immaculate, and those who had the opportunity to enjoy the products of her cooking and baking can attest to her talents in these areas. She had enjoyed traveling, including the occasional trip to a casino. She was a very determined woman who lived independently until a few days before her passing. She still read a daily newspaper, watched Mass on television, and followed all of her favorite baseball teams, especially the Yankees, Red Sox and Braves. Mary is survived by a large extended family. Her three nieces: Elaine Sundberg and her husband Roger of Gainesville GA; Susan Fiorillo and her husband Douglas of Bristol; and Lori Johnson and her husband Robert of Naugatuck. Her three grandnieces: Lisa Hronchek and her husband David of Atlanta GA; Tara Lamoureux and her husband Kevin of Kensington; and Jodi Luchina and her husband Andrew of Naugatuck. Her two grandnephews: Scott Sundberg and his wife Ginger of Atlanta; and Shawn Donovan and his wife Elizabeth of Prospect. Her seven great-grandnieces: Katelyn and Chelsea Donovan; Mya and Allison Lamoureux; Kathryn and Carly Luchina; and Lane Hronchek. Her five grand-grandnephews: Benjamin and Samuel Hronchek; and Paden, Carson, and Wesley Sundberg. Finally, her sister in law: Kathryn Duszak of Shelton with whom she enjoyed long and spirited conversations on the telephone. In addition to her husband and parents, Mary was predeceased by two sisters: Helen Fratesi and Stella Duszak; two brothers: Stanley and Chester Duszak; and her niece, Deborah Donovan. In accordance with Mary's wishes there will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday August 8, at 10:30 am at St. Augustine Church in Seymour. Interment will follow in the Duszak family plot in St. Augustine Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to The Archdiocese of Hartford Office of Radio and Television, 15 Peach Orchard Road, Prospect, CT 06712. The Anthony V. Chepulis Funeral Home 47 Washington Ave. Seymour is assisting the family.
Rest in peace, Aunt Mary; we will all miss you very much.
