Mary Toth Sandor

Mary Toth Sandor, 74, of Seymour entered eternal life on May 10, 2022 in the comfort of her own home with her loving family at her side.  She was the beloved widow of Janos Sandor, Sr.  Mary was born in Bridgeport on July 2, 1947, daughter of the late Joseph Toth and Ethel Karoly Toth.  Mary began her career as an RN and furthered her education to earn degrees in Counseling and Humanities.  She was an adjunct professor in the Humanities Department at Housatonic Community College for many years. She was the Program Director/ Director of Women's Programs Isaiah 61:1, Inc. of Mary Magdalene House in Bridgeport for many years until her retirement. She found great fulfillment in assisting women who needed a second chance to find their paths in life through the guidance and love of God.  Mary worked as a DUI repeat offender counselor and encouraged those with addiction challenges to alter their lifestyles. Mary had a life-long thirst for the Bible and passion for praising the Lord.  Her strong faith helped sustain her through times of adversity as well as in times of joy.  Mary was proud of her Hungarian heritage and in her free time enjoyed baking traditional Hungarian desserts.  She enjoyed doing crafts including card making, knitting, and fashioning clothespin dolls.  She treasured the memories of the cruises and vacations she took with her loving and devoted family.  Her greatest joy in life was in caring for her family especially her cherished grandchildren, friends, and those who needed her the most.  She was a warm, caring, generous person who was always ready with a smile, helping hand, and a word of advice.  She will be greatly missed by all who were blessed to have known her. In addition to her husband, Janos Sandor, Sr., Mary was predeceased by her beloved son, Tibor "Tibi" Nagy, and adored grandson, Xavier Sandor.  She is survived by her devoted son, John Sandor, and his wife, Mary Graft of Shelton; grandchildren and the lights of her life, Gregory Graft, Patrick Wynne Sandor, TJ, Nicholas and Noah Nagy; sister, Kathleen Toth Stauble and her husband, Mark, of Moose Pass AK; nephews, Sam and Jacob Stauble of New Mexico; and cousins, Patricia Dolan, John, Stephen, and Robert Fazekas, James Simon, Ann and Jack Search. She also leaves to cherish her memory her life-long friend, Martha Becerra; dear friend and neighbor, Patty Gavin, who also helped care for her; devoted canine companion, Precious, who was by her side for fifteen years of hugs and cuddles; and many co-workers, friends, and the clients she has assisted over the decades.  Friends are invited to greet the family on Sunday May 15, from 2:00-5:00pm at the Anthony V. Chepulis Funeral Home 47 Washington Ave. Seymour 06483.  Interment which will be at the Riverside Cemetery in Shelton will be announced at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Shelton High School Quarterback Club in homage to her beloved grandson, Xavier Sandor, who recently preceded her in death, and his love of football.
