SEYMOUR-Richard Sobotka, 64, of Seymour entered eternal life on Saturday March 21 st at his home. Richard was born in Wilkes-Barre PA on March 29, 1950, son of the late Edward and Marcella (Bodurka) Sobotka. He was a graduate of Seymour High School and a communicant of St. Augustine Church. Richard was employed by the Big Y Supermarket in Naugatuck for many years. Richard was a life-long member of the Aurora Council # 53 Knights of Columbus. He found his true calling in life in assisting his brother Knights in their many community and fellowship endeavors including Tootsie Roll Drives, Golf Tournaments, Communion Breakfasts, weekly Bingos, and the fruit cup booth at the Pumpkin Festival. He was the State raffle chairman for many years. He was a Fourth Degree Knight, the long term Grand Knight of Aurora Council # 53, and a member of the Pope John Paul I Assembly in Seymour. As a member of the 1 st Degree team he helped initiate and welcome many new members into the Knights of Columbus. He was proud to be honored with the District Grand Knight of the Year award. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed hockey, Bridgeport Bluefish baseball and UCONN Men's Basketball. Richard was a hard-working, loyal and devoted friend who's kindness, thoughtfulness and compassion touched many lives. He will be greatly missed. Richard is survived by his beloved brother, Chester Sobotka and his wife Elaine of Fontana, of CA; nephews, James Edward Sobotka and his wife Kaitlin of CO, and Matthew Ronald Sobotka and his wife Marlenna of AZ; niece Kimberly Anne Stephens and her husband McCall of CA; and Great nieces, Emmalyn Stephens and Kenley Sobotka. Funeral Services will be held on Friday March 27 th at 9:30 am at the Anthony V. Chepulis Funeral Home 47 Washington Ave. Seymour for a 10 am Mass of Christian Burial at St. Augustine Church with Rev. Honore Kombo officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery. Friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Thursday March 26 th from 4:00-8:00pm and Friday from 9:00am. In lieu of flowers, Richard's family requests that donations in his memory be made to the Knights of Columbus Aurora Council # 53 165 Main St. Seymour, CT 06483.
