Salvador Vargas, Jr., 83, formerly of Oxford, entered eternal life on Sunday March 24, 2019, at Gardner Heights Health Care Center in Shelton. He was born in Salinas, Puerto Rico on January 27, 1936, beloved son of the late Salvador Vargas, Sr. and Flor Maria Vazquez Vargas. Salvador was an insurance adjuster for Allstate Insurance Company for many years until his retirement in 1997. He was raised Catholic and privately nurtured his spirituality. Sal will always be remembered for his innate ability to build and repair anything. He was intrigued with the mechanics of how things worked and was happy tinkering on various projects. Sal was very social and enjoyed seeking out others who shared his zest for life. He was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. In the sunset of his life he enjoyed watching television and NASCAR races. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his son, Nelson Vargas; brothers, Bobby Vargas and John Soto; and sister, Alice Caro and her husband, Hermino. He is survived by his beloved son, Jeffrey Vargas and his wife, Linda of Oxford; son, Wilfredo Vargas of Stratford; and daughters Nyla Vargas of Bristol, and Krystal Vargas of Ansonia. He is also survived by his brothers, Hector Vargas and his wife Monserate, Joe Vargas and his wife Grace; sisters, Carmen Rosa and her husband Mike, Gloria Rosa and her husband Neville, and Yolanda Sosa and her husband Mike. He also leaves many nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Graveside services will be held on Thursday March 28 th at 11:00am directly at Lawncroft Cemetery 1740 Black Rock Turnpike Fairfield. Per his wishes there is no visitation. The Anthony V. Chepulis Funeral Home is assisting the family.
