Vera (Sciarretti) Wilhelmy, 86, of Seymour entered eternal life on Saturday August 4, 2018, at Griffin Hospital. She was the beloved widow of Philip Wilhelmy, Jr. Vera was born in Shelton on October 4, 1931, daughter of the late John and Filomena Sciarretti. She was an aide at Griffin Hospital for many years until her retirement. Vera was a devout communicant of St. Augustine Church and a past member of the League of the Sacred Heart and the Prayer Shawl Ministry. She enjoyed knitting, cooking, baking, and vacations especially when her travel destinations involved the beauty of nature and the great outdoors. She loved to take rides in the fall to view the changing foliage as well as vacationing in Maine with her grandchildren. In the sunset of her life she enjoyed playing cards, Bingo and ice cream sundaes, with extra whipped cream, with her friends at Callahan House. In addition to her beloved husband, Philip, she was predeceased by her sister, Catherine, and her brother, Dominic. She is survived by her son, Philip Wilhelmy III and his wife, Maureen, of Seymour; daughters, Barbara Lauderowicz of Bethel and Karen Wilhelmy of New Haven; grandchildren, Sarah DiMeglio, Mark Lauderowicz, Philip Wilhelmy IV, Michael Wilhelmy, and Bridget Wilhelmy. She is also survived by 6 great grandchildren, and her sisters, Josephine Rovinelli of Derby, Armida Criscuolo of Derby and Louise Sciarretti of New Haven. Funeral Service will be held on Saturday August 11, at 10:45am at the Anthony V. Chepulis Funeral Home 47 Washington Ave. Seymour for a 11:00am Mass of Christian Burial at St. Augustine Church. Friends are invited to call at the funeral home from 9:15am until mass time. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family.
