Walter John Ewen, Jr.

Walter John Ewen, Jr., 73, of Washington Ave. Seymour, entered eternal rest on Thursday June 4, 2015. Walter was the beloved husband of the late Susan Chepulis Ewen, and Eileen Baran Ewen. Walter was born in Derby on Oct. 28, 1941, son of the late Walter and Margaret Tiano Ewen. He was honored to have served his country in the Navy aboard the USS Dixie in Yokasaka, Japan. Walter was a foreman at the American Brass Company for many years. Walter was proud to serve his community as a Derby Police Officer and retired after 38 years of distinguished service. Walter was a communicant of St. Augustine Church. He was an avid Yankees fan and enjoyed attending their spring training in FL. He was a golf enthusiast and enjoyed participating at tournaments as well as being a spectator. In the twilight of his life he was proud to be a funeral assistant and the facilities manager of the Anthony V. Chepulis Funeral Home where he made it his mission to have the greenest lawn on the block. In addition to his late wives, Walter was predeceased by his beloved canine companions, Shadow, Jasper, and Buddy. Walter is survived by his devoted sons, Scott Ewen and his wife Debbie of Atoka TN, Mark Ewen and his wife Joy of Derby; beloved granddaughters: Ashley and Paul Netishen of Tewksbury, MA, Jessica Ewen of Pensicola, FL, Sarah Ewen of Derby, and Margaret Ewen of Naugatuck; cherished great granddaughter Victoria Ewen of Derby; devoted and attentive brother Robert Ewen of Seymour; sister in law Anne Chepulis of Milford; ex-wife, Ruth Ewen of Seymour and many extended family members and friends. Funeral services will be held on Friday June 12  at 10:30am at the Anthony V. Chepulis Funeral Home 47 Washington Ave. Seymour for a 11 am Mass of Christian Burial at St. Augustine Church. Interment with Full Military Honors will be on Monday June 15 at 10am (DIRECTLY) at Mount Saint Peter's Cemetery, 219 New Haven Ave. Derby. Friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Thursday from 4-8pm.
