William J. Bloomingdale, Sr.

William J. Bloomingdale Sr., 79, of Oxford, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday August 5, 2015 surrounded by his loving family at his home. He was the beloved husband for 55 years of the late Elizabeth (Breda) Bloomingdale. William was born in New Haven on January 3, 1936, son of the late William Bloomingdale and Eileen Shea Bloomingdale. He was a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corp having attained the rank of Sergeant during his enlistment as well as earning the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He was an Engineer at Allen Products, B & B Products and Filmline. He enjoyed golfing, birdwatching, gardening and woodworking. He will always be remembered for putting others before himself. His true passion in life was in the care of his large family, especially all of the "little ones". In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his beloved wife, Elizabeth (Breda) Bloomingdale. He is survived by his devoted children: William and Victoria Bloomingdale of Beacon Falls, Eileen and Robert Wilkinson of Middlebury, Elaine and Paul Hardy of Oxford, Elizabeth and Robert Tallberg of East Hampton, Ellen and Mark Perkins of North Carolina, and Evelyn and Robert Sehl of East Hampton. He is also survived by his sister, Ellen and Victor Caprio of Hamden, 20 cherished grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Funeral services with full military honors are private and have been entrusted to the care of the Anthony V. Chepulis Funeral Home, 47 Washington Ave., Seymour. As per his wishes, interment will be privately held at St. James Cemetery, Naugatuck CT. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in honor of William's love of birdwatching may be made to the Connecticut Audubon Society www.ctaudubon.org .
