Xavier Hunter Sandor

Xavier Hunter Sandor, 19, of Shelton, unexpectedly entered eternal life on April 15, 2022 while stationed in Virginia with the US Navy.  Xavier was born in New Haven on March 26, 2003.  He was the beloved son of Janos (John) Sandor and Mary Graft. Xavier had a long standing passion for sports.  He started martial arts at the age of five and through many years of hard work, sweat, and dedication was able to earn his second degree black belt in karate. He had a real love for football, which he began playing in the sixth grade, and through this interest made many forever friends. He was the quarterback of the Shelton High School football team.  Xavier cherished the warmth and love of his devoted family especially their Saturday night dinners and annual family picnics. He enlisted in the Navy during his senior year in high school.  Xavier graduated from Shelton High School Class of 2021 and began his career in the Navy by attending Boot Camp in Great Lakes, IL.  He excelled in boot camp as a leader yeoman and sharpshooter.  After completing boot camp he entered "A" School in San Antonio TX and graduated as a Badged Master at Arms.  He was stationed at the USS George Washington (CVN73) where he protected the ship until his untimely death. Xavier was predeceased by his grandfather, Janos Sandor, grandparents, Patrick and Gladys Wynne and Uncle Tibor "Tibi" Nagy.  He is survived by his beloved Father, John Sandor and Mom, Mary Graft, who Xavier affectionately called "EA", who have raised him from 18 months to adulthood; cherished brothers, Gregory Graft and Patrick Wynne Sandor, who looked up to Xavier as his Hero.  He is also survived by his paternal grandmother, Mary Toth Sandor of Seymour, Beloved Uncle Pat and Aunt Susan Wynne, of Hamden. He is also survived by his biological mother Heather Mitchell, many loving aunts, uncles, cousins and too many friends to name.  Xavier is also survived by his beloved canine companion, Grace, who would wait on his bed eager for his return from duty. Xavier was a sweet, caring, smart and very loved young man.  His death has been felt throughout his hometown of Shelton.

Friends are invited to greet the family on Sunday April 24, from 3-7pm at the Anthony V. Chepulis Funeral Home 47 Washington Ave. Seymour 06483. A service including prayers by Naval Chaplain David Duprey and words of remembrance by family and friends will be held at 5pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday April 25 at 10:00am at St. Joseph Church, 50 Fairmont Place Shelton 06484 with Rev. Dogali officiating. Full Military honors will be accorded.  Friends are asked to meet DIRECTLY at church on Monday. Xavier (Vern) you will be greatly missed and never forgotten by all who were privileged to have known you. Your time with us was too short but now your duty is done and it is time for you to go home to God's beautiful garden in the sunshine of Perfect Peace.
